The Creative View—Submission Guidelines

The California Assisted Living Association (CALA), seeks submissions of poetry and prose for a creative feature in its quarterly publication, News & Views. The magazine is geared towards executives and business owners in the Assisted Living industry, as well as advocacy groups, policy makers, and those interested in learning more about Assisted Living and long term care.

General Guidelines

CALA is looking for poetry, short stories, and memoirs from California residents exploring issues that would be of interest to our primary audience, including aging, wisdom, caregiving, and community. In addition, each issue of the magazine is themed, and submissions which fall under those themes are welcomed (see below). Submit via email to the appropriate editor. Include your contact information and a short (25-30 word) bio. Please note if the submission is for a specific issue.

We read year-round. Response times are 1 to 3 months. Sometimes, a piece may be held longer for consideration in a later issue.

We do not accept previously published material. Simultaneous submissions are okay, as long as we are notified immediately if they are accepted elsewhere. Authors will receive one contributor’s copy. News & Views assumes the right to publish pieces on their website as well as in the physical issue. All rights revert back to the author after printing.
