Carbon Monoxide Detectors in Assisted Living

New Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rules

The CA Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) issued emergency regulations to implement the new CO detector law. The new rules make a clear distinction between new and existing construction and provide several significant exceptions. All existing multi-family dwellings must be in compliance by January 1, 2013 and must comply earlier if construction of more than $1000 is taking place. Also, the OSFM released an Information Bulletin clarifying that local fire officials cannot disapprove STD 850 (fire clearance request form) due to lack of compliance with the CO alarm requirements.
