Assisted Living Advocacy Day 2010
See photos from the event!
Assisted Living Advocacy Day 2010 was a huge success! With just under 100 attendees and 66 legislative visits Assisted Living providers brought the voice of Assisted Living to the Capitol, participated in the legislative process, networked with colleagues and had a great time!
With almost half of this year’s attendees new to the event, there was a lot of excitement (and some nervousness), but CALA staff and lobbyist worked to ensure that attendees has all the information they needed for successful visits at the Capitol. Attendees briefed their legislators on what Assisted Living is (and what it’s not!), our continued effort to increase licensing visits to RCFEs throughout the state, and the economic impact that Assisted Living has on California (more than 68,000 jobs!).
Delivering the Assisted Living message lets legislators at the Capitol know how proposed bills will affect you, your employees, and your residents. Participating in Assisted Living Advocacy Day is an ideal way to have an impact on Assisted Living policies. CALA’s staff and lobbyist reviewed the high priority issues and gave attendees talking points for their meetings with legislators.
If you were able to join us, then check it off your Advocacy in Action list and move on to the next action item! Now that you’ve seen how easy it can be to talk about what you do, check out The Voice of Assisted Living… is You! and keep your momentum going! In addition, we’ll be starting a new event this August, Day in Your District, which will be a fantastic opportunity to meet your legislators and the staff that works with them in their district office. So, watch for more information on that too! Couldn’t make it this year? Keep your eye out for Assisted Living Advocacy Day 2011 and make sure you join us next year! This day is always fun and informational. Attend Advocacy Day and join your colleagues to influence the future of Assisted Living.
Big congratulations to our three Advocate of the Year winners! Congratulations Lynette Hubbard, Regional VP for Atria, Michael Johnson, Executive Director at Vintage Golden Gate, and Carol Pickard, Regional Operations Manager for Sunwest. These individuals exemplify the different ways you can help Advocate for Assisted Living in your community and at the State Capitol. From utilizing The Voice of Assisted Living… is You! tools, to hosting legislators at their communities, to rallying other Assisted Living providers at Advocacy Day, these advocates are helping shape the way the Assisted Living profession is regulated and perceived. Way to go!
