2011 Fall Excellence in Service Winners
CALA is pleased to recognize the outstanding dedication and exemplary service provided to Assisted Living residents and proudly recognizes the following southern California Excellence in Service Award recipients:
Outstanding Caregiver – Zenaida Preciado, Emeritus at Hemet
From the time Zenaida joined the resident care team at Emeritus at Hemet 11 years ago, her special way of serving residents, complemented by a motivating style that encourages independence, became apparent, along with her almost "miraculous" way with residents on hospice and their family members. Given her success with residents, family members and fellow team members alike, it's no surprise Zenaida was eventually promoted to lead care manager and "the" trainer for new caregivers. She's described as being very approachable, is highly respected, and has a way of motivating others to want to do their best. Kent Goforth, executive director at Emeritus at Hemet shares, "I do truly believe that Zenaida has the touch of an angel. Anyone would be extremely lucky to have her care for their loved ones."

Outstanding Team Member – Thomas Lynch, The Arbors Assisted Living & Memory Care
Thomas has spent his entire work life in Assisted Living, starting as a dishwasher when he was just sixteen years old. Now, twenty years later, he is a wonderful cook who constantly receives high praise from residents, while also having great rapport with residents, family members and team members alike. Thomas is described as having a true passion for seniors. Being big and strong, he's often called upon to assist other team members, and he never hesitates, no matter the task. According to Ryan Test, executive director at The Arbors, "The amazing thing about Thomas is, as good a cook as he is, he's an even better person. He has everything that you can't teach, to include anticipating residents' needs. Thomas is a huge asset to The Arbors."

Outstanding Executive Director – Charles Bloom, Vista Village Senior Living
Charles has worked in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing for over thirty years, with a tremendous track record of successful business management. His commitment to resident satisfaction is unparalleled, and he enjoys participating in enhancing residents' quality of life whenever possible. He's often seen playing drums or his washboard during "Family Nights." Charles continually gives back to the community-at-large by providing fundraising activities and sponsorships for multiple organizations. Most recently, he partnered with Harrah's Casino to revitalize an old greenhouse at Vista Village that will provide vegetables and herbs for a local food bank. According to John Murphey, regional marketing director for Integral Senior Living, "Charles is both a titan of the industry and a strong advocate for senior care. Quite simply, he's the model of what 'right' looks like."
